Jon and I are in an interesting position right now. Our little farm is growing faster than we could ever have imagined and there are lots of things we’re praying about and trusting God for right now! The Bible says that the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophesy and in light of that, I want to share some of the absolutely INCREDIBLE things that have been going on over here!!!
As you may know, God blessed us with five goats several months ago and we feel very strongly to work toward something similar to Heifer International, here in our backyard. Recently, we’ve been looking to add another buck for our breeding program, from lines that have been bred specifically for dairy. Our thought has been to get the best we can afford, and breed up from there, and so we’ve been looking at bucklings from different lines. There is one herd in particular that I’ve had my eye on for quite a while, but they’re pretty far away and I seriously doubt that anything from them is within our budget (to give you an idea, one of their bucks fetched the highest price of any AGS goat in the past fifteen years, selling a few years ago for almost $9,000 [and I didn’t accidentally add an extra zero!])
Two days ago, I happened to get on a website I’ve looked at before – a breeder (somewhat) close to us who is one of the top Nigerian breeders in the country and breeds primarily from the lines of the herd I’ve had my eye on – and saw that they are in the processes of selling their entire herd. On a whim, I decided to email her and ask her if she might have anything available within our budget and, if not, whether she would be willing to advise me regarding a buckling from someone else.
That night, while waiting for a reply, I got the strongest sense that I needed to tell her what we’re doing here – which I haven’t told ANYONE in the “goat world” because I feel very strongly that this is God’s project and very strongly against soliciting for help, or even seeming to do so. So when I felt God leading me to tell her what we’re doing, I said “no way!” I continued to get that prompting, however, so finally I asked him to help me very carefully word things in such a way that it did not seem in any way like I was asking for help. I figured He wanted me to share because it might make her glad to know what one of her goats – from an amazing herd she’s spent years developing – would be going toward.
The next day I woke up with exactly what I wanted to say in my head. To attempt to make a long story short(er), she and her husband were both very encouraging about our little project and have shown us an INCREDIBLE, almost unbelievable, amount of support. I never – ever – asked for help… In fact, I did everything I could to make sure it didn’t even SEEM like I was asking for help. And yet this couple has absolutely poured blessings out over us – not only making it possible for us to acquire six (SIX!!!) new goats from some of the very best dairy lines in the country, but is also giving us much of the equipment they have spent the last decade building up for their own herd, including a milk stand, several hay feeders, fencing, medications and many, many other things. She wrote in an email regarding these things: “I DO NOT want any payment for any of these items…. I have been blessed beyond belief in my life, so please take these offers for your future expansion.”
I am so, incredibly thankful and humbled by all of this. And a little scared! Which I’ll accept as a good thing for “in my weakness, He makes Himself strong!” and I’m definitely feeling a little (a lot!) weak right now!
I’m standing on a verse right now, and that verse is “He who has begun a good work in you (and in this project!) will bring it to completion!” This is very much HIS project. I am certain of that. And if the past is any indication of the future, I am certain He has incredible things in store.
I stand in awe.
