Spring is here!!!

I am thankful for… Spring!

From the kitchen… We had some friends come to visit over the weekend and I made dinner for everyone (you can read about that here). I didn’t take any pictures of the actual meal, but I did take some pictures of our kitchen as we were cooking and I thought it might be fun to give you a glimpse into my kitchen on cooking day:

Here’s the panoramic view:

And in the spirit of full disclosure, my husband wanted me to be sure and take a picture of our trash can:

That’s right, it’s virtually empty.  I think I’m officially the worlds messiest cook.

I am creating… flower-glass1

Flower arrangements.  🙂

I am going… to have SO MUCH FUN this week!  My mother in law is coming back for a visit on Wednesday, and she’s going to keep the kids while my husband and I go out on a “date.”  On Thursday we’re having friends and family over for dinner and on Friday my MIL and I are taking the kids horseback riding.  I can hardly wait!

I am reading… I just finished The Hiding Place and Tramp for the Lord by Corrie Ten Boom and I’m between books right now.  I may take the kids to the library today… I really hate to be without a book!

I am praying… nothing in particular right now, just general prayers of blessing for friends and family.

Around the house… We spent a lot of time last week going through some of the kids toys (we still have toys in the basement to tackle) and we cleared out the shelves in the closet and put everything in bins.  In an effort to train them to put things away when they’re done, the children must ask us to get things down for them and can’t get any new toys down  until the old toys are put away.  So far, it’s working great!

Lets pray this makes a difference!

Two of my favorite things…

Viola

Viola

Tumbleweed

Tumbleweed

Laying aside for the moment the fact that they have been pooping in the floor recently (I have no idea why!), these are seriously two of the worlds greatest cats. Tumbleweed is the most laid back cat I’ve ever seen and will allow the kids to cart him around the house, roll him around in their strollers, and subject him to all kinds of torture that would send a lesser cat into hiding, not to mention biting and scratching.  I seriously think he’d let them dress him in baby clothes if I’d allow them to.  And although Viola would hiss and scratch at almost everyone who came near her for the first few months (she’s declawed, so this wasn’t a major concern,) she has come to trust us completely in the past year and is now almost as laid back as Tumbleweed.  She will seek out the children for attention, and even tolerates the baby.  It’s a wonderful thing to have earned the trust of an animal.  I really love my cats.

A few plans for the rest of the week… dinner with my husband and family gatherings and horseback riding!

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

Oooh, that is a messy kitchen. Enjoy your “date”.
Loved the way you answered Outside my Window.

      Thanks, Mama Bear.
Karinann, I bought it at an antique store… we don’t actually use it. 🙂
Susan, both the cats are Ragdolls, which is a really great breed of cat – especially for homes with children. They’re notoriously laid back and even tempered and very affectionate.

I always enjoy visiting your blog. Great pictures! I didn’t think anyone else still had one of those old fashioned meat grinders. I have my grandmothers- great for making homemade bread crumbs as well.
    Enjoy your date with hubby!
    God Bless!

Great pictures! I love the one of the wind chimes. And all those spring flowers sure are whetting my appetite. I think it must be a lot warmer where you live because my daffodils are still just buds.

  4. What a great daybook! I really enjoyed it and all the photos. I love the ones with the child with the flowers, the flower arrangement, and Tumbleweed. What kind of cat is she? She is beautiful! We have two cats from the animal shelter at different times – Itty Bitty and Princess. Princess is as laid back as Tumbleweed. (My kitchen looks like yours! I wish I had a dishwasher – someday, I will!) Great job with the toys.

LOL…your kitchen looks like mine when I cook. ..lol..
Hope you have fun this week end.

I love your pictures and your honesty about your messes. It is very refreshing.

And, for what it is worth, I feel your pain re: the cats pooping on the floor. We have two great cats too, and one of them has taken to a special spot in the family room. (sigh).

  7. Jerri says:

    Rina,

Seriously, thank you for posting those pictures of your kitchen as you cook. Now I don’t feel alone! I am your messy-kitchen-as-I-cook twin! But to give myself credit, I am very particular about cleaning it up when I’m done cooking and keeping it clean between meals.

Also, I have to say that picture of your girls making bread is priceless! You need to frame it!

    • Rina says:

LOL thanks for sharing that, Jerri. I was hoping SOMEONE out there could relate! 🙂
Realmomma, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who is struggling with this – and not getting rid of the cats! What are we going to do???

  8. Amydeanne says:

love the pictures! and wow, i’m jealous, it’s so slushy here and still covered in snow!

  9. michelle says:

    Hi Rina,
Okay, I thought I was the messiest cook, but you must come close;-) We joke at our house because I go in the kitchen and cook up a storm and then dust off my hands and walk out and let the clean up crew take over! Which is the kids and my dear husband. I tell them that is why I am the chef and they are the sous chefs! I’m a work in progress.

Loved your pictures of the sweet children!

    • Rina says:

Michelle, I look forward to the day when I can “dust off my hands and walk out” on the mess! Actually, I’m hoping that one of our girls will decide she loves cooking and I can give the whole thing over to her! 😉 Although I HAVE been having more fun with cooking now that I get to cook for others more often – and share all about here! 🙂

  10. Jo says:

I think I like that picture of the wind chimes even better than the showy ones on your newest camera blog. It’s gorgeous! And I’m so jealous of your flowers; we just got an another inch of snow yesterday!!

  11. dtbrents says:

I love your pictures. Such beautiful pictures of Spring. I love your house photos too. We have dining tables alike. God bless, Doylene
